A court has awarded death sentence to seven people for the murder of a woman in Noakhali in 2020. One of the convicts is the victim’s son.
District and Sessions Judge Nilufar Sultana pronounced the verdict on Tuesday.
Those who received the death penalty were Humayun Kabir, 29, the woman’s son, Nirab, 26, Noor Islam, 32, Kalam, 30, Suman, 33, Hamid, 28, and Ismail, 30. They were all in court for the verdict.
According to public prosecutor Gulzar Ahmed Jewel, a fine of five thousand taka each has also been imposed on the culprits.
On October 7, 2020, police recovered the beheaded body of Noor Jahan, a 58-year-old housewife from a paddy field in Jahajmara village of Subarnachar Upazila. Gehana said that the next day three more pieces of her body were found in the same field.
