One after another resorts are being built in the ecologically important area adjacent to the World Heritage Sundarbans.
Meanwhile, 14 resorts have already been set up in Khulna and Satkhira by filling up canals and cutting down forest trees.
Construction of eight more resorts is underway. Generators are being run at high volumes in most resorts, while air conditioners (ACs) have been installed.
According to the Environmental Protection Act, an area of ten kilometers around Sundarban has been declared an ecologically important area. Any kind of activity or construction that harms the natural features is completely prohibited in these areas.
But, defying the ban, these resorts have been built, causing damage to the forest. Water, noise and land pollution is increasing in the areas around the resorts. Wild animals are leaving the area.
