Switzerland striker Briel Embolo scored against his native Cameroon in their World Cup Group G tie at the Al Janoub Stadium on Thursday but refused to celebrate as his team-mates rushed to congratulate him.

After struggling to break the deadlock in the first half and second best in the game, which was 0–0 at the break, Embolo headed home an Xherdan Shaqiri cross to give the Swiss the lead in the 48th minute.

The 25-year-old striker, who was born in Yaoundé but grew up in Basel, stood with an apologetic frown on his face after scoring as Switzerland’s players celebrated around him.
