Bangladesh government has imposed tax in the exporting item for the first time through implementing tax over tobacco. Government has discouraged tobacco production in the Budget yesterday. Price of cigarettes has already increased from 2-3 days before budget declaration. In the budget for next fiscal year, 10 percent tariff has been proposed on the export of raw tobacco. National Board of Revenue high officials said it has been done to discourage cultivation of tobacco on farmland. They said tobacco cultivation has affected farmlands adversely and it is also threatening food security. At present all types of export items are free of tax and tariff.
