Six labourers were dead being struck by thunder bolt. They were crossing the river titas on a boat. Their bodies were recovered from a channel between Akhaura and Brahmanbaria sadar upazilas on Thursday.
The deceased are Md Afu Mia, 25, Md Abdul Hakim Mia, 32 and Md Ameer Hossain, 40, of Chinair Uttarpara village under sadar upazila, Jamal Mia, 35, of Banpalashia village under Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh, Md Abul Kalam, 25 and Md Yakub Mia, 32, of Dubaura village of Haluaghat.
Boatman Nikli Mia could somehow survive. He is now undergoing treatment at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital. He said that the labourers were working in a paddy field of Kajla Beel.
After the dark cloud began to cover the sky, they hired Nikli’s boat to cross the river.
According to Nikhil, the labourers were struck by the thunder bolt while crossing the river and they fell and drowned in the river.
