No launch took place from Sadarghat in Dhaka due to the strike.
BIWTA Transport Inspector Humayun Ahmed said one launch left for Bhola on Sunday morning, while 35 launches are docked at the pontoon.
He said that about 10 launches on the Elisha route of Chandpur and Bhola are not going due to the strike.
Badiuzzaman Badal, senior vice-chairman of the Launch Owners’ Association, expressed grief that the workers get a minimum wage of Taka 10,000 and it is not possible to accept their demand for a wage of Taka 20,000 as the number of launch passengers has reduced.
He said several meetings were held with the government and owners over several months. A committee has also been formed, but the workers still chose to go on strike.
