Women's representation in banking sector is stuck at 16 percent for last 3 years

The report said the total number of female employees in the banking sector at the end of 2023 was 33,346, while the number of male employees was 170,350. This means 16.37 percent of bankers are women, a figure barely changed from 16.29 percent registered in 2022 and 16.03 percent in 2021.

Despite no significant change in the percentage of women bankers, the total number increased from 30,141 in 2021 to 33,205 in 2023.

On the other hand, there has been a steady increase in the recruitment of women into the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), with the average recruitment rate in the 36th, 37th and 38th general BCS being 26 per cent and 48 per cent, respectively. The latter two B.C.S.
