BASIS Soft Expo 2010 Closed

BASIS Soft Expo 2010 Closed yesterday. Yesterday was the last day of this five day long fair. But the Closing Ceremony of SoftExpo 2010 was held in the evening on February 13, 2010 at Harmony, Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Muhammad Faruk Khan, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of Bangladesh, was the chief guest in the ceremony while Mr. AKM Abdul Awal Mazumder, Secretary, Ministry of Science & ICT, Mr. Ghulam Hussain, Secretary (In-Charge), Ministry of Commerce and Mr. Md. Shahab Ullah, Vice Chairman, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), were the special guests. Mr. Tanveer Mohammad, Deputy Chief Technical Officer and Director, Technology Division, Grameenphone, was the Guest of Honour. Mr. Habibullah N Karim, President, Mr. Nahid Ahmad, Secretary General, and Ms. Farhana A Rahman, Treasuer of BASIS were also present among others.

In the Closing Ceremony IT Champion Award was given to Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology by BASIS for his extraordinary contribution for the development of ICT in Bangladesh.

Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Faruk Khan expressed his enthusiasm regarding the prospect of the ICT sector in Bangladesh. He was very confident about the capability of the Bengalis. Science and ICT Secretary, Mr. Mazumder, declared his commitment working for the development of the ICT sector in the country. He said that the ICT Park at Mohakhali will be implemented within a short period of time.

Crests were given to the honourable guests, exhibitors, BASIS Executive Council members, BASIS staff and the vendors who helped implement the activities related to SoftExpo 2010.

Mr. Karim, President, BASIS, described the background of SoftExpo and ICT industry of Bangladesh. He felt that the industry is growing steadily. He hoped that it would be increased up to 10 times within a few years time.
