Due to some objection from development partner World Bank the communication ministry had to cancel their tender process in April this year.
Government declared the process of constructing the bridge would start from January 2011. According to the design by Aecom the process should have started from September of this year would end by December 2013.
According to the World Bank the contractors should have the experience for three types of piling method, but the selected contractors don’t have the required experience, hence the objection. The bridge department said during the construction of Jamuna Bridge the respective didn’t have the said experience too, but they have got the work done with the help of other construction company.
The bridge is going to be of 6.15 Km long. The cost of construction is estimated to be 2.63 billion USD.
