Dinajpur mayor sent to jail for making derogatory remarks on judge

Four Supreme Court lawyers filed a contempt of court petition over the mayor’s derogatory remarks against Appellate Division chamber judge M Inayatur Rahim, whose judgment was centered against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The four lawyers are advocates Harun-or-Rashid, Mahfuzur Rahman Roman, Md Moniruzzaman Rana and Shafique Raihan Shaon.

The Supreme Court also issued a rule asking the government to explain why Mayor Jahangir should not be punished under contempt of court and why a show cause notice should not be directed to be issued against him.

Jahangir Alam was elected mayor of Dinajpur Municipality in 2011.
