Shiplu alleged that workers of the ruling party thrashed Khan with sticks and rods, leaving him seriously injured.
He was immediately admitted to a hospital in Patuakhali and later shifted to LabAid Hospital on November 22 as his condition deteriorated.
“My father passed away today (Monday) at around 10 am while undergoing treatment at the hospital,” he said.
Shiplu said Khan would be buried at his family graveyard in South Sutabaria village next to his mother’s grave after Asr prayers on Tuesday after several Namaz-e-Janaza in Dhaka and Patuakhali.
On hearing the news of Khan’s death, BNP general secretary Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other senior party leaders rushed to the hospital and spoke to the bereaved family members.
