Earlier, Election Commissioner Mohammad Alamgir had expressed the commission’s intention not to make any changes in the police and administration. He feared that a major reshuffle in the administration could lead to anarchy.
When asked about the commissioner’s statement, Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said he was only authorized to give information about the commission’s decision. However, the Commissioner may have expressed his personal opinion.
The additional secretary also ruled out possibilities of chaos due to the reshuffle, saying, “A public servant has to perform his duties wherever – upazila and district – he is posted.”
