Main opposition in the Parliament Jatiya Party has demanded naming the Padma Bridge after Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Kazi Firoz Rashid MP from Jatiya Party made the demand while speaking on a point of order in the House on Thursday.

He said, “After defusing all the rumors, works on the Padma Bridge is going to begin. Communications Minister said that vehicles will ply over the bridge by the year 2018. The bridge should have a name. I’m telling the name of such a noble lady who keeping herself behind the curtain inspired all the movements including liberation war.”

“She inspired the father of the nation standing beside him. When Bangabandhu was incarcerated in jail and fell pray to political harassment, she kept the country people united giving right direction,” Kazi Firoz said.

Deputy leader of the Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and independent lawmaker Hazi Selim also supported the proposal.
