124 students died in road accidents this April

However, according to Road Safety Foundation records, 6,524 people died on the roads last year. And, 1,053 of them were students. This means that 16 percent of the total road deaths last year were actually students.

Syedur Rahman, executive director of the Road Safety Foundation, told Prothom Alo that road traffic rates are higher among students and the working-age population. Therefore, whenever an accident occurs, it is seen that people of working age and students are becoming its biggest victims.

They complained that faulty vehicles were plying on the roads, inexperienced drivers were operating the vehicles and there was a lack of awareness among passengers and pedestrians about following traffic laws.

On the other hand, it has been observed that the concerned government organizations are negligent in fulfilling their responsibilities. He said that overall there is a chaotic situation on the roads, resulting in accidents and deaths.
