The way the government is arresting opposition leaders and activists or filing cases for fake incidents – how do you see it as a lawyer? How are the police or legal processes working impartially here?
Actually, in the eyes of law there is no such thing as a fake case. In the years 2013 to 2014 and 2018, many incidents of arson, petrol bomb blasts, killing of people and violence took place in different parts of the country. Many accused ran away after being released on bail. They are being arrested from different places and prosecuted.
This time also BNP and Jamaat (Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami) are instigating like before and they are also being arrested in those cases. This time too they killed people, threw petrol bombs, set vehicles on fire – everyone saw it. These are straight up criminal offences. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the state to bring the criminals to justice and complete the trial as soon as possible.
If these accused are not arrested and brought to justice, the impartiality of the police or the judicial process will be weakened. If someone commits a crime and the criminal remains unpunished – this can never happen.
