Uganda’s regional police spokesman Rogers Tetika told AFP that 21 people were confirmed dead in Saturday evening’s accident. Most of those killed were Kenyans but eight Ugandans were also included.

The bus was traveling from the eastern Ugandan city of Mbale to Nairobi when it crashed in the Kenyan town of Lwakhakha, across the border from the Ugandan city of the same name.

Another 49 people were injured, Taitika said, after the driver apparently lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road.
