It is not that only the Vice Chancellors of these three universities have committed irregularities. The first job of almost all the Vice Chancellors is to flatter the student organization leaders and workers of the ruling party and fulfill their illegal demands. Their second task is to form a group of teachers and staff. Those who remain outside this group will have to face various types of problems. Comilla University is the latest example of this situation.
The then VC of Chittagong University came under pressure and gave appointments to 37 people. But this is the second instance of such an incident, the first instance was set by the former vice chancellor of Rajshahi University.
Earlier, VCs of Rajshahi University, Islamic University and Islamic Arabic University were accused of appointment-trading. Even the University Grants Commission (UGC) investigated the allegations made against some vice-chancellors. While some Vice-Chancellors challenged the investigation by the UGC, which is a toothless institution, some of them used their influence to scuttle the investigation process right from the start. A former VC of Rokeya University also challenged the Education Minister. Those VCs are more influential than UGC and Education Ministry officials.
