America imposes sanctions on former army chief General Aziz Ahmed

“The US Department of State today publicly announced the designation of former General Aziz Ahmed, previously the Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Army, for his involvement in significant corruption. His actions have contributed to the erosion of public confidence in Bangladesh's democratic institutions and public institutions and processes,” the statement said.

These public designations are made under section 7031(c) of the annual Department of State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Appropriations Act.
