A Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Thursday that Dhaka is giving top priority to the safe and speedy return of Myanmar border guards to their country.
“Our priority now is to ensure the safe and speedy return of Myanmar border guards, but the priority is not whether they will be sent back by air or sea,” spokeswoman Seheli Sabreen told reporters at a weekly briefing at the Foreign Ministry today. “
He said that Bangladesh proposed to send back Myanmar security personnel by air thinking that this could be done quickly.
“Bangladesh wants to bring back all these people as soon as possible. There is no opportunity to delay,” Sabreen said.
In response to a question, he said that there is no question of any international or political reason for granting asylum to Myanmar’s BGP members.
He said, BGP members from Myanmar have also recently taken refuge in India and returned to their homeland from India.
“They have taken temporary refuge in Bangladesh because members of a regular force have got into trouble and from day one the Myanmar government has expressed its desire to take them back to Myanmar.
