The number of companies owned by Bangladeshis registered in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is increasing, according to one of its emirate statistics.

Additionally, the number of membership of Bangladeshi businesses in Dubai Chamber of Commerce increased by 47 percent (1,044 companies) to a total of 10,975 companies in January-June this year.

Established in 1965, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce released data on its members on its website this month.

The data shows that more than 350,000 member companies exported and re-exported goods worth US$27.29 billion or UAE Dirhams 137 billion in the first half of this year.

However, no one from Bangladesh runs a business in the UAE with investment permission in the Gulf country. According to Bangladesh Bank, so far 17 companies have received government approval to open small-scale overseas offices or factories, and overseas lands include Singapore, Kenya, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Hong Kong. It is the most preferred destination for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to invest.
