Bangladesh’s last attempt to find a finisher for the World Cup

But the biggest disappointment of all has been not being able to find a finisher for the World Cup.

Bangladesh tried two players, Shamim Hossain and Afif Hossain, for this role in the Asia Cup.

Shamim got more opportunities than Afif, because he got to play four matches while Afif got two matches. But their returns were low and they got scores of 11, 16, five and one respectively. Furthermore, his tendency to either stop the ball or swing it to the fences on the leg side suggests that he has not yet developed into the reliable finisher that Bangladesh are looking for in ODIs.

And then there is Afif, who batted twice in the contest and looked out of position in both innings, four and 12.

Following the failures, both Shamim and Afif have been ruled out of the home series against New Zealand, having not been rested.
