The Chief Engineer of Water Development confirmed that at least 61 kilometre long embankment in Khulna- Satkhira- Bagerhat areas has been damaged and saline water has entered the area.
Koyra's Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) ABM Tariq Uz Zaman said that he has received information about the dams being damaged in some places. He said that initially it is believed that heavy rains and winds have caused a lot of damage.
Cyclone Rumel hit the Khulna coast after 10 pm on Sunday, said Amirul Azad, officer in charge of the Khulna Meteorological Office.
“After 1 am the wind speed was 100 to 130 kmph,” he said.
