A 47 lakh taka bomb calorimeter used to measure the calorific value of coal has been stolen from the highly secured lab of Rampal Power Plant.
The US-made equipment was stolen on January 15, just 27 days after it began commercial production, a day after the plant stopped power generation due to a coal shortage.
Mohammad Shamsuddin, chief of the Rampal police station, said on Friday that they were interrogating the suspects as part of the investigation into a case launched by plant manager Mohammad Oliullah against unknown persons.
Oliullah declined to comment on the incident, saying he was unaware of the progress of the investigation.
According to case documents, the device was on the table when chemist Abdul Malek closed the lab at 6 p.m. on January 14. Malek left after handing over the keys to employee Moosa Parvez and asking him to give them to technicians MD Saddam Hussain and Tanveer Rehman. ,
