Farida Begum, a neighbour, said she woke up during the massive explosion and saw the walls of the fifth floor collapsing.
The burn victims include Sabuj Khandkar, 25, owner of a hosiery factory in Kashipur; Rana Miya, 30, a garment worker; his wife Bithi Akhtar, 18; and his daughter. Besides, local fruit traders Abu Kalam and Zakir Hussain also suffered injuries.
Fakhruddin Ahmed, deputy assistant director of fire service and civil defence, said he saw a gas cylinder inside the flat. The explosion must have happened due to leakage in its pipe.
