The mayor of Teknaf Municipality Panel told Prothom Alo that intense fighting between the two sides began after 11 pm on Thursday in several areas including Balibazar and Perangpru near Rakhine's Maungdu town and continued until 4 pm on Friday. People in Teknaf spent nights awake due to the sound of mortar shell explosions.
Wykong Union Council panel chairman Shah Jalal said people in his area heard sounds of gunfire and mortar shell explosions throughout the night. The Arakan Army took control of the Totardiya area on the banks of the Nef River on the other side of the Wyekong Union two weeks ago and Myanmar security forces are now trying to retake it.
According to multiple border sources, there are several Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) outposts in Balibazar, Nakpura, Kumirkhali and Perangpru in Rakhine. The Arakan Army reportedly took control of three border outposts in Tumbru right and left, as well as several other outposts in Rachidong and Buchidong, south of Mongdu, during the month-long battle, with the Arakan Army now set to capture the central part. It is outside Mongdu city.
