Fuel price was increased on last Sunday midnight. Following that decision the government has increased bus and auto rickshaw fare. Fare was increased in last May, but bus owners didn’t accept that fare chart continued to take higher fare and government failed to control that.
Perhaps the bus owners will not accept this time also. They will fix fare according to their whim. A leader of bus owners has already expressed his dissatisfaction, terming ‘this fare hike is not enough’.
Auto rickshaw fare has increased 14 paisas per kilometer and bus fare for long routes has increased 5 paisas. Bus and minibus fares for Dhaka and chittagong metropolitan areas have increased 10 and 5 paisas respectfully. Auto rickshaw waiting charge has also increased 10 paisas.
But the bus owners and auto rickshaw drivers are already charging much higher than government approved rate. Everyone will be very eager to see whether this time it is controlled by the government or not.
