City dwellers as well as some parts of the district experienced a heavy rainfall causing serious disruption of civic life and hampering business activities during last few days.
The heavy downpour began five days earlier and continued intermittently till today.
There was serious dislocation in normal public life as well as all sorts of business activities due to incessant rain that caused heavy water logging in most parts of the city.
According to Met Office, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over the area with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places.
Besides, 79-millimeter (MM) rainfall was recorded in the city on the day.
Heavy rainfall created water-logging in many areas in the city including Bashabo, Kamalapur, Khilgaon, Rampura, Badda, Kalachandpur, Demra, Sonir Akhra, Mowtail, Konapara, Dogairs, Hazinagar, Bamoil, Ittefaq Square, Kazla, Dholaikhal, Nawabpur, BCC Road, Thatari Bazar, Kaptan Bazar, Sadar Ghat, Fakirapole, Chamelibagh, Santinagar, Kakrail, Razarbagh, Hazaribagh, Mirpur, Sewrapara, Paity, Amoilya, Shekherteck, Kazipara and Kamrangirchar causing immense suffering to the people living in those localities.
Witnesses said that many city areas went under knee-deep water during the rainfall and business establishments in some low-laying areas were submerged by rainwater.
Transport problems caused untold sufferings to the commuters. Rickshaw pullers and three wheelers were seen demanding excessive fare from the commuters taking advantages of the bad weather and thin traffic.
