Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Thursday rejected Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s application to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Garden, DMP Commissioner Khandker Golam Farooq said.
On August 1, the party had sent a letter to the DMP commissioner seeking permission to hold the rally. A group of party leaders led by Abdur Razzak handed over the letter.
“We failed to hold our scheduled rally on August 1 as we did not get any permission from the authorities. Therefore, we have decided to organize a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Friday at 2:30 pm. We are hopeful that we will get help from the police,” said Razzaq while speaking to reporters after submitting the letter.
