The country was in an internet blackout at yesterday afternoon for more than one hour. It started at 4:30 pm and lasted till 5:45 pm.
The submarine cable consortium started its repeater replacement work on the 6th August; and yesterday they completed their work with the power reconfiguration of the cable.
Satellite based telephone communication and internet was active during the blackout.
Repeater is a device which regenerates electrical or optical signal of a cable after certain distance, because it becomes so weak after traveling long distance.
A repeater in the sea between Singapore and Malaysia needed replacement, so repair work was done. It was informed before, that there will be a disruption before activating an alternative line. So users were prepared.
