No ban on execution of death row convicts

On March 2, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed the review petitions of three persons, including two death row convicts, in the Professor Tahir murder case.

Earlier on April 5, 2022, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court had sentenced two people to death and two others to life imprisonment in this case.

Nazmul Alam and Abdus Salam, relatives of caretaker Jahangir Alam, were among the two sentenced to life imprisonment.

Professor Tahir’s body was recovered from a drain near his residence two days after he went missing on February 1, 2006.
