Farid Ahmed of 40 was arrested from Narayanganj fish port for involvement with illegal turtle trade. Forty live turtle of flat-shell, Assamrup turtle and soft-shell turtle species was recovered from him. Two hundred turtle shell and five kilograms of dried fat was also recovered from him.
Wild life control unit of forest department conducted the operation with the help from Narayanganj police. A case is filed in local police station under wild life protection and safety act. Capturing, keeping and trading of wild life are prohibited. There is provision of fine of fifty thousand taka and one year imprisonment for violating the act.
These turtles were taken to Forest Department office in Agargoan and then these turtles were taken to national park at Gazipur where these turtles are kept in a water reservoir of turtle rehabilitation center.
Some consignments of turtles were seized in airport in recent months.
