Few would have thought that a wet, helpless dog could survive for days stranded on the rocks of Chile’s second largest river, in the cold and windy coastal region of the South American country.
Named Sirena, which means mermaid, the medium-sized black dog was rescued Thursday morning by her caretakers after being stranded at the mouth of the Biobio River, about 500 kilometers (310 miles) from the capital Santiago.
Captain Norman Ahumada of San Vicente Port and Corbeta Littoral said the rescue was complicated by bad weather and rough sea conditions.
