Rising prices of daily essential commodities: Impact on consumers in Bangladesh

Like sugar, prices of rice, pulses, edible oil, flour, onion, fish, meat and eggs are still high in the market. Every year in February the prices of winter vegetables reduce significantly. But this year the picture was opposite. Overall, people are not at peace.

In its election manifesto announced ahead of the 12th parliamentary elections held on January 7, the Awami League emphasized controlling commodity prices. Since the new government took charge, cabinet members have been talking about various steps to control commodity prices. Duty exemption has been given on some products. However, it has not had any significant impact on the market.

According to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), there has been no decline in the price of rice in the retail market in the last one month; Instead the price of fine rice has increased slightly.
