Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto said his team was confident of winning the match against South Africa with batsman Jaquer Ali at the crease, however things did not go as planned in the last over of the match when they needed 11 runs from 6 balls.
South Africa defeated Bangladesh in a thrilling last-ball encounter in the T20 World Cup match played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Monday (local time) and moved one step closer to qualifying for the Super 8 stage.
Shanto believes his team should have won the match but said South Africa bowled well in the last few overs.
“Everyone was nervous, but when Jeker was there, everyone was confident. It didn't happen, but it's okay. Tanzeed has worked really hard in the last few games, we needed new ball wickets and he showed his character. It was a match we should have won, we almost won, but he bowled well in the last few overs,” Shanto said after the match.
