The garrison was established following US President Joe Biden’s announcement last year of a permanent US presence in Poland.
Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said, “We appreciate the permanent US presence in Poland, especially in Europe nowadays when Russia has invaded Ukraine and is trying to rebuild its empire.”
“US forces on the eastern flank of NATO will be commanded from Poland,” he said at the ceremony, calling the garrison “important for Poland’s security but also important for NATO’s security.”
