Police arrested Jamaat-ul-Ansar mastermind Shamin Mahfouz on June 23, 2023. Earlier, they had arrested his associate Yasin and arms supplier Kabir Ahmed in January.
During interrogation, Shamin Mahfouz revealed that he had a deal with the separatist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) to receive weapons and necessary training.
Shamin Mahfouz formed Jamaatul Ansar under the guise of his work for newly converted Muslims. On his invitation, Kabir and Rahim joined the militant organization and provided them with weapons.
