Bangladesh is going to join US initiative of ‘Global Alliance for Clean Cook Stoves’ to reduce indoor pollution and save millions of lives.
The US sponsored alliance is being formed under the United Nations Foundation to reduce indoor pollution globally as well as to prevent the spread of respiratory diseases. A total of 27 countries have already joined the alliance.
US secretary of the state Hillary Clinton invited Bangladesh to join the US with many other governments and non-government organizations in the alliance.
US Charge d’ Affaires Nicholas J. Dean today met State Minister for Environment and Forest Dr Hasan Mahmud at his secretariat office with Hillary Clinton’s invitation. USAID mission director Richard Greene was present.
In the letter, Hillary said Bangladesh is one of the 10 countries globally affected by indoor pollution and harmful effects of respiratory diseases, so Bangladesh’s joining the alliance is emergency.
