Another passenger named Anita Mubashira, who was heading towards Anwara from Chattogram city, said, “We have waited for a long time for the tunnel to open. So, while crossing the tunnel I felt proud to be a Bangladeshi. And the reason is that we have the first such tunnel in South Asia.”
Deputy Project Director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, MD Abul Kalam Azad said, “We opened the tunnel for traffic movement at 6:00 am. From now on the tunnel will be open 24/7. When traffic flow reduces in the dark of night, some lanes will be closed for toll collection. But, no vehicle will have to wait.”
He told that there is an instruction to keep the speed limit inside the tunnel at 60 km per hour and there are also such arrangements so that vehicles do not stop inside the tunnel.
