Chief Election Commissioner Qazi Habibul Awal said there could be different reasons for low voter turnout.
“As we tried to know the matter, we were informed that many people could not come to cast their vote as they had gone to harvest their paddy. Storm and rain also occurred at some places. This could also be another reason,” he told the media.
“My issue is whether voters are coming or not, can they cast their vote, have there been any incidents of irregularities, is there any chaos after the counting of ballot papers,” he said.
The CEC declined to comment when asked by journalists whether it was happy with the voting percentage or not.
