Govt takes plan to develop film industry

Information Secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamun announced several attempts to develop the film industry of Bangladesh including introducing a film institute and developing existing cinema halls and the film archive, which are long cherished demands of the people involved with the industry. The initiatives of the government came at a commemorative programme at Sufia Kamal Auditorium of National Museum on Tuesday. The programme was organised jointly by Bangladesh Film Archives and Bangladesh Film Archives Almonai Association for paying homage to recently demised three virtuous film personalities Tareque Masud, Mishuk Munier and Akhtaruzzaman. The Information Secretary, who was the chief guest at the programme, said that the information ministry is planning to introduce a film institute where promising newcomers will be able to learn more about acting and movie making. Pointing out that the ministry has already got the reports on the existing theatres in the country, the information secretary further said that measures to be taken immediately to develop cinema halls and to install cineplexs where the audience will enjoy movies in international standard environment. Kamrun Nahar, director general of Bangladesh Film Archives, declared to take steps to ensure overall development of film archive service while delivering her speech at the programme. She also presided over the programme. The programme started observing one minute silence in the memory of the deceased souls. At the discussion session, film makers Manjare Hasin Murad, Morshedul Islam, Mosehouddin Ahmed, Syed Salauddin Zaki and member of Tareque Masud’s film unit Manish Rafiq shared their experiences with Tareque, Mishuk and Akhtaruzaman to the audiences. The programme was ended with the screening of short film Norosundar and feature film Pokamakorer Ghorbosoti directed respectively by Tareque Masud and Akhtaruzaman. Popular film makers Tareque Masud and internationally acclaimed cinematographer and CEO of ATN News Mishuk Munier died at a road accident at Dhaka Manikganj highway on August 13th. After a few days, the country lost another of its eminent film personalities Akhtaruzaman.
