Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Japanese counterpart Kishida Fumio share the view that prolonged displacement of Rohingyas will increase the burden on host communities and increase “destabilization in the region”.
They stressed on realizing the “permanent, safe, voluntary and dignified” repatriation of displaced persons to Myanmar as the ultimate solution to this crisis for peace and stability in the entire region.
Prime Minister Hasina stressed the need for measures to be taken by the Myanmar authorities to create a conducive environment for the early return of the displaced population, including addressing the root causes behind the displacement, according to the joint statement.
