The main base of Juno Bahini is at Shukradandi near Patiya Munsef Bazar along the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway. Their drug trade and other crimes take place in the empty swamps of the area. Raju Hussain alias Guli used to be the right hand man of Raju Julo. But on April 27, when there was a fight over distribution of medicine money, Raju was murdered in broad daylight in a swamp in Shukradandi. At one point Raju was shot in the leg by RAB when he ran away from them and since then he came to be known as Guli (Goli) Raju.
Patiya Paurashwa Ward 2 councilor Rupok Kumar Sen, speaking to Prothom Alo, said that local residents lived in terror of Julo and his gang. They are involved in drugs, teen gangs, robbery and other crimes.
According to the police, Julo has a 150-member gang in Oxygen area of Chattogram city and Patiya Pourashava of the district. The members of his gang include teenagers of 15 to 16 years as well as youth of 40 years.
Talking to the police and local residents, it was revealed that Raju Bahini's right-hand man Zubair, Taiju Islam alias Arman, Mohammad Saqib, Mohammad Misbah, Mohammad Asfi, Ayat, Hakeem Chaudhary, Anayat Abid and Mohammad Farman were frequent associates of Julo.
During a visit to Patiya Pourashava area on Sunday, people were so scared of Julo that they could not talk openly. A shopkeeper in Palli Mangal, Paurshwa, told Prothom Alo on the condition of anonymity that Julo Bahini people used to help themselves to whatever they wanted from his shop. They sometimes paid, but mostly borrowed. When he protested two months ago, they beat him up.
Walking around the spot and talking to local residents and students of Patiya, it was revealed that the Julo gang used to harass the girls while going to school. They used to blast the hydraulic horns of their motorcycles to create panic in the area. He went into hiding after Raju was murdered at the end of last month.
