Apart from Nabeel, there are about 13 gangs in Mirpur. These are Bhaskar Bahini, Rinku Bahini, Ashiq Bahini, Alu Babu Bahini, DJ Roman Bahini, Max Polu Bahini, Rubel Bahini, Anik Bahini, Parvez Bahini, Milan Bahini, Battu Bahini, Babla Bahini, Sharif alias Dasa Bahini.
This correspondent visited Kalshi in Pallabi on January 20 to know more about these gangs. That evening, members of Ashik Vahini attacked Max Polu and beat him badly. Polu later told Prothom Alo, “I used to be involved in all kinds of crime, but I have changed and now work in a motorcycle repair shop. I don’t know why they attacked me.”
Local people are different. He says that in a clash over snatching a mobile phone, one party attacked the other.
Saeed Iqbal Bhaskar is the chief of Bhaskar Vahini in Mirpur. He is involved in drug dealing, extortion and all types of crime. It is alleged that Saeed carries out these criminal activities under the protection of his uncle Anwar Hussain, who is the senior vice president of Mirpur police station Awami League.
An attempt was made to contact Anwar Hussain on mobile phone regarding these allegations and an SMS was also sent to him. However, he did not reply. A police officer involved in the investigation of the case against Saeed, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Prothom Alo that whenever Saeed commits a crime, he simply takes shelter in his uncle’s house.
A player of the Bangladesh national cricket team owns an eatery, Chhakka Restaurant, on Love Road in Mirpur Model Police Station area. The restaurant extension is built from a shipping container. On March 4, members of Rinku Vahini stole the container and took it to Dhanmondi. A case was registered in this regard at Mirpur police station. Enraged, Rinku gang attacked the restaurant in broad daylight and damaged it.
Investigation has revealed that several cases are registered against Rinku Vahini chief Ripon Mehmood alias Rinku at Mirpur Model Police Station.
