Metro rail and bus rapid transit (BRT) project are some projects which were suggested by the experts. Many experts believe that only improvement of public transportation system may ease the traffic congestion in the capital.
But the implementations of these projects were delayed and some flyover projects were taken. Many experts opined that these flyovers will only encourage the city dwellers to buy more private cars and eventually this will worsen the situation.
The government will start negotiation with the donor agencies this week to secure funding. Metro rail route will start from Uttara and end at Motijheel. The route is finalized now, but it was not a easy task. Environmentalists argued that the metro rail route should avoid Sher e Banglanagar and the air force said old airport is an air field which is regularly used and crucial for air force.
Bus Rapid Transit is special lane for public buses; buses also get privilege in the cross sections. So buses make movement easier for the commuters.
