No permission to hold Sayeedi’s missing funeral: DMP chief

Golam Farooq said that at around one o’clock in the night several thousand leaders and workers of the Jamaat demanded that his funeral should be done in Dhaka.

When the ambulance carrying the body came out of BSMMU, the people of the Jamaat lay down on the road. At that time, the Jamaat leaders had assaulted the police officers present at the spot including the Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Zone. They also vandalized four-five police vehicles and set two motorcycles on fire. Still the police did not take any action.

He said that the people of Jamaat did not leave the area after Fajr prayer and called their leaders-workers to come to Shahbagh. Then the police released tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Later, the ambulance took Saeedi’s body and went towards Pirojpur.

He said that due to such activities of the people of the Jamaat, the police would not give permission for Sayeedi’s funeral.
