Removal of NRCC chair is against commitment to river conservation: TIB

At an event organized on the occasion of World River Day on September 24, he strongly criticized Education Minister Dipu Moni over the illegal occupation of the river, without naming him directly.

Iftikharuzzaman said the courageous stand of the NRCC chief gave a ray of hope to the people as they came to know about the encroachers and polluters on the river. The movement to protect rivers was gaining momentum and an environment was being created to develop a favorable public perception.

“It is a matter of hope when the head of an organization that has been ineffective for a long time identifies the culprits in no uncertain terms. People expected the government to take specific complaints into consideration, investigate, and hold the culprits accountable. But this did not come true, rather the NRCC chief had to step down,” he said.
