Considering the circumstances, CPD has advised to set three main objectives in preparing the next budget. First, to restore macroeconomic stability and protect disadvantaged populations; Secondly, to take initiative to increase revenue collection so that dependence on banks is reduced and it becomes possible to meet necessary expenditure from revenue income; And third, to prioritize public expenditure efficiently so that there is no wastage of money.

CPD Executive Director Fahmida Khatoon proposed that the budget for the new financial year be prepared based on the current reality. The main goal of the fiscal budget for 2024-25 should be to address the current challenges and restore macroeconomic stability, he said. This will require medium-term reforms.

Speaking at the press conference, CPD distinguished colleague Mustafizur Rahman said, one of the main goals of the current government's election manifesto is to reduce inflation. The government has taken some initiatives for this, but inflation cannot be controlled by imposing a fine of 5 million taka or 10 million taka, while some quarters manipulate the market and make 500 million taka in seven days. Existing laws should be strictly enforced and should be visible.
