119 city structures gutted by fires

Four fire incidents at Mirpur, Kamrangirchar, Badda and Dhanmondi of the capital gutted 68 houses, 50 rooms and a shop early yesterday, said officials.

At Mirpur, the fire broke out at a makeshift house at Jhilpar slum around 2:00am and burnt 64 houses. Twelve units of the fire brigade doused flame after two hours effort.

In another incident, fire originated from a gas pipe leakage inside a room of a tin-shed house at East Rasulpur of Kamrangirchar around 2:45am.

The fire burnt to ashes the house, containing 50 rooms for tenants. It was doused around 4:45am after two-hour effort by 10 fire brigade units. At West Shankar of Dhanmondi, a sanitary shop was gutted by fire which originated from an electric short circuit at about 4:45am. Fire fighters put out blaze inside the three-storied building around 5:45am.

At Gudaraghat Lakepar of Middle Badda, the fire gutted three makeshift houses after originating from a gas pipe leakage at about 5:15am. Fire fighters doused the flame around 6:10am. The victims claimed that valuables worth around 45.5 lakh were gutted by the fire.
