Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots may have broken all box-office records when it released in India in 2009, but the film’s popularity doesn’t seem to be fading. Almost two years later, the film released in Hong Kong recently and within two weeks, it has done business of over Rs 90 lakhs.

Only recently

have Indian films started getting full-fledged international releases. In Taiwan, where the Rajkumar Hirani film had a longer box-office run as compared to other English releases, it raked in half a million dollars. The Vidhu Vinod Chopra-production is being aggressively promoted with print and advertising budget of about $1.5 million.

According to Sameer Rao, CEO of Vinod Chopra Films, “this is comparable to that of a major Hollywood release.”
