Mobile banking account holders can check their balance for free from their mobile phones. But this situation may change soon. In a recent directive from BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission) it has said, Mobile Financial Service (MFS) operators will need to pay mobile operators for every sessions. Every transection, checking balance, taking statements, etc are considered as a session. Every session will last 90 seconds and include two sms text messages. MFS will need to pay 85 paisa to mobile operators. This charge will be 40 paisa for checking account balance.
So it is expected that MFSs like bKash, Rocket, U Cash will eventually charge their customers for checking balance. In spite of the directive from BTRC, mobile operator Robi has already confirmed that they will not charge for checking mobile banking account balance. On the other hand users still has the opportunity to use mobile application to avoid any charge because instead of using mobile networks, these mobile applications use internet connection for transections.
